“Cloister of Santa Maria de Senioribus” – 15th century (Currently home to the Rambotti museum)
CHARACTERISTICS
The space dedicated to musical performances is presented as an open-air square surrounded by ancient stone colonnades that support the sail-shaped corridors that served as a sheltered area for the passage and meditation of the monks who lived in these places over the centuries. The physical characteristics of the place give it extraordinary acoustics that guarantee maximum sound output during live musical performances.

HISTORICAL NOTES
The monastery of the Carmelite friars was founded in 1472, the adjacent church, later deconsecrated, was already dedicated to S. Maria de Senioribus. The cloister, with a square plan with five arches per side and twenty columns, had already been completed at least since 1547. The refectory and the chancellery opened onto the cloister. On the first floor, two sides of the cloister were occupied by the monks’ cells, while the other two were open loggias, with terracotta columns and small arches. The only opening onto the lake was a mullioned window.
