CHARACTERISTICS
Our concerts will take place inside the castle courtyard next to the East tower of the city walls. A place of great charm, where the public will be able to enjoy the performance of some of the most interesting talents of the international Opera scene. The icing on the cake is the spectacular view that opens up behind the artists and allows you to admire Lake Garda in all its majesty.
HISTORICAL NOTES
The Castle was built in the Early Middle Ages and probably arose on the foundations of a Roman castrum. Rebuilt in the municipal era and strengthened in the 15th century, it originally contained 120 houses and a church dedicated to St. Ambrose. The castle was then expanded towards the end of the 15th century, probably with the intention of hosting a garrison, but in reality it never became a military fortress but remained a place of refuge for the population. The inhabitants of the houses inside the castle were in fact always ready to welcome those who lived outside the walls in case of danger. At the end of the 19th century the castle became a barracks that first hosted an infantry garrison, then the sharpshooters and finally, from 1943, the Alpine troops.
